I apologize that a certain alderman named, Florence Manning, is a bully.  I apologize for the ENTIRE town who has neglectfully elected her as alderman. Is it a fact that people in town have not effectively participated in their own government a SHAME? How else could this have happened?  Is it just another case where people have become complacent and apathetic towards their own leadership? 

I think she realized that as a fact; the Fire Chief's position in asking for an apology has proved it. The story. Do you really think he acted alone in requesting the apology? That is HIS MOTHER.   Anyone have a calculator for that spin she put on it? The article stated, "Town attorney Ellen Creel told the board that the discussion needed to be put on the agenda by a unanimous vote if it was to continue, and she added, “I would encourage y’all to put some thought into things before things are said and get out of hand.” TOO LATE.

I didn't have to raise my voice to call Florence Manning a bully, either. Here she is repeating a story to, who else?; her son the Fire Chief. And, of course, she is trying to put her son up to bat for her.  It's right there in the paper, "Fire chief requests public apology Manning speaks at Board of Alderman meeting".  Honestly, I have no invested interest in town.  I already know for a FACT that she is a bully. I wish Franklinton would wake up!

Why didn't she recuse herself b/c her son is the Fire Chief? Chad Manning stated clearly that Florence Manning, alderman/woman acted as a "liason".  This is an ethics violation, clearly.

Well, DUH!

PROCEDURE FOR FILING COMPLAINTS
A potential violation of any law administered by the Board of Ethics can be reported by submitting a complaint to the address below:
Complaints filed with the Board must be in writing and signed by the person submitting the complaint. The complaint should also contain sufficient information for the Board to determine whether a potential violation of any law within the Board's jurisdiction is presented. Complaints are confidential and it takes a vote of at least eight members of the Board to refer a complaint to investigation. Persons filing non-sworn complaints only receive notification of the final disposition of the complaint. Alternatively, a complaint may be sworn before a notary. Such a sworn complaint may be referred to investigation by a majority of the Board. Persons filing sworn complaints will be notified by the Board of any action taken on the complaint.

It is a misdemeanor to reveal any information about an Ethics Board investigation.

Franklinton Alderman vote no against funding rec complex - Era Leader March 30, 2011

Well,  I suppose if the following were NOT true, "Brad Orman was forced to recuse himself from voting on the issue because of an opinion from the Board of Ethics. The land that Recreation District #1 has identified to purchase is listed with Orman's real estate firm.", then we'd probably have a rec complex in town somewhere? Nope. Our government is seriously discussing shutting down right now. This is the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT I'm referencing the same Federal Government you are looking to for matching funds. Do you remember 1995?  I DO! OUCH! I don't blame the nay saying aldermen+1 woman on this vote.  Times are scary. The fact that one of the alderman had to recuse himself doesn't sit well with me in addition to the CURRENT FEDERAL BUDGET crisis and the threat of government shut down. I also agree with every statement FOR a rec complex and moving Washington Parish forward, but geesh!  Between the realtor and the Federal Government budget that's two strikes against the rec complex before it even gets up to bat!  My foots down. I'm not giving away $150,000 dollars TODAY and that's my FINAL ANSWER (PERIOD) FOREVER.

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE PER DIEM

COMPENSATION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR

COMMITTEE MEETINGS UNDER SECTION 2-05(B)

OF THE HOME RULE CHARTER FOR THE NEXT

TERM COMMENCING JANUARY 1, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Section 2-05(B) of the Home Rule Charter for Washington Parish authorizes the council to adjust compensation of council members effective after the current term;

 

AND WHEREAS, council members currently do not receive reimbursement for travel within the Parish while fulfilling Parish duties;

 

BE IT ORDAINED, that council members shall receive per diem compensation of seventy-five and 00/100 dollars ($75.00) for each duly called committee meeting held on a date other than the date of a regular council meeting not to exceed three (3) committee meetings per month.  Council members shall not be otherwise compensated for travel within the Parish.

 

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the effective date of this ordinance shall be January 1, 2012.

The paper editorial recently regarding the Sheriff and Mr. Kuhn really torqued me off.  You shouldn't go around publically calling people stupid. That's just not right.  Especially, with all of those bad lawyer jokes you can tell instead.

Omg.  There is a paranormal society in Washington Parish Louisiana.  Whodathunkit? They've even posted pics from this summer....

The bless you beer is served on Sunday.   Sunday beer sales.

The NPS has listed another Washington Parish location on its potential (see 10 November 2009 Federal Register) and LISTED National Register of Historic Places! on December 18, 2009.
